PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE IN BOLINGBOOK

Preventive Dentistry in Bolingbrook and Naperville

Preventative dentistry is at the heart of all we do. With a great prevention-focused strategy, you can lower your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. A good home care regimen and regular checkups can also lower your risk of co-existing medical conditions.

Every six months, we recommend scheduling an exam and cleaning for everyone in the family. These frequent visits enable us to detect issues before they become even more complicated. In addition to diagnostic X-rays, we may provide preventative services such as fluoride and dental sealants, depending on your needs and age.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride strengthens teeth and makes them more decay-resistant. Like calcium, this mineral is necessary for robust tooth enamel. If you are highly cavity-prone, we recommend administering fluoride gel/varnish after your cleaning. These regular applications can help regulate dental sensitivity as well as reverse early signs of enamel demineralization.

Dental Sealants

Sealants are usually applied to hard-to-reach teeth or cavity-prone areas in a matter of minutes. To begin, we isolate the tooth using an absorbent pad or cotton. After that, we condition the tooth, rinse it clean, and dry it properly. The sealant is then applied to the tooth and exposed to a strong light to cure it. Sealants are recommended on younger patients, once their permanent molars erupt. They can be touched up as needed.

Gum Disease Treatment

Routine preventative cleanings focus on your teeth and just along the edges of healthy gumlines. But if there’s evidence of any active gum detachment or periodontal infection, a series of deep cleanings will be necessary. These visits allow us to remove the bacteria responsible for the gum infection, putting you on the road to recovery.

During a deep cleaning we may want to numb the tissues around your teeth to prevent any sensitivity. Each area is thoroughly cleaned to remove bacteria below the gumlines. We may recommend cleaning one side of your mouth and then the other at a separate visit.
